It's hard being a rookie...

I never thought joining a new team would be so difficult! I don't know, I guess I was living in a dream world thinking that I could just walk up to practice and start right away, but I mean, look at my physique!?! Powerful thighs, strong arms, broad shoulders...and well, I don't like to brag but I would think that my...ahem...upper body offers a lot in the way of ball smothering abilities. I mean, seriously, even before learning to play rugby I had been ball smothering for years! Anyways, all I'm saying is that I think my talents are being overlooked a bit.

And speaking of being overlooked, I don't think Coach Rosen is paying a bit of attention to me. Last weekend was our first game and it felt more like I was being babysat on the sidelines than being treated like a true athlete. EVERYONE got to play - everyone except me, that is. I tried to speak up but every five seconds someone was grabbing my hand and saying "Go with her, Winger," or "Why don't you sit here for a while, Winger?" It was so hot outside, and it's not like I was there for my health - just sitting on the sidelines I could swear I could feel my skin just melting off...

The bottom line is, things are going to have to change around here. The first step is to figure out a good position for myself (if I wait for coach it'll NEVER happen..). That's why I've put this poll up on the right side of my blog. I want to take everyone's advice into account when deciding where it'll be best for me to compete. Like I said before, I realize I'm new to this sport, but once I decide where I really fit in I'm going to throw out all the stops in fighting for a starting spot. My name, of course, is Winger, but I'm not sure if wing is really my natural position. I mean, really all the back three do is just stand around out there and wait for all the real rugby players get the work done so that they can score. And besides, I know I'm probably the fastest player we've got, so if I decide I want to try for an outside back position later on, I'll still be able to do that.

So then where does that leave me? Not so sure. You know, the rest of the backs work pretty hard I guess, but I'm thinking that the pack is where all the action really is. With my great attitude, field vision, and physical superiority, I'm thinking that 8-man might be my calling. There's this one girl who plays there most of the time, but I don't really remember her name. You know, wherever the team has a weakness, that's where I feel that I should help out.

Well, so long for now - practice is in a few hours and I need get focused so that I can come out ready to compete....I'll let you know how it goes!

I hope you're a prolific blogger, Winger! Blogging has been down lately. As a stay-at-home mom, I rely on the entertainment. I'll be checking back often.
